Don’t let the numbers rule your life…

Beautiful Mums, putting away the scales was the best thing I did.

When trying to lose weight, eat healthier, look better and feel better, it’s very easy to get obsessed with jumping on the scales everyday.

Since the day I was at my biggest weight, I’ve lost 28 kilos and feel absolutely amazing for it.

I’ve had 4 children and after my 2nd child, I reached my heaviest weight. It got to the point that I was going to have to go up another size in clothing and I cried my eyes out. I cried, cried some more and then got determined to change my ways.

I was in bad eating habits, never exercised, had low energy and low motivation. But that moment was my turning point. There was no way on earth that I was going to allow myself to move up a clothing size. I wanted to feel good about myself. I wanted to feel healthy and not be out of breath after climbing a set of stairs and playing tag with my kids. I also wanted to teach them good healthy habits and not see them fall into the unhealthy ways I had been living.

But through doing this, I saw myself become obsessed with checking my weight on the scales. I was very weight focused instead of health focused. Some days I’d weigh myself multiple times a day, until one day I realised what I was doing and the obsession I had created and decided to put away the scales. Instead of choosing what to eat by the weight it said on the scales, I chose what to eat by asking myself if it was a good choice for my body or not. Was it healthy or not. Will I feel good after eating it.

I chose to eat the foods I knew would have a positive effect on my body and not just to make the numbers on my scales change. And doing that helped the numbers change automatically anyway. And having the scales away for a time felt like a freedom. It made me re focus on why I was making the changes I was making.

I’m not saying lock the scales away forever, but maybe its become an addiction for you like it had for me, so putting them away for a time might help you re focus on your health goals and the reasons you were weighing yourself in the first place.
